“Hey, Eva! Can you tell me more about your approach to Human Design readings? I’m trying to decide if you’re the right Human Design reader for me.”

Sure thing, my friend. Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

I first discovered Human Design sometime in early 2020. I had always been fascinated by various systems of self-discovery, including astrology, Myers-Briggs, and the Enneagram (hello, fellow 8w9s 👋🏻).

In a way, Human Design slotted perfectly into my existing stack of tools–while also adding something completely new to the mix.

The concept of Strategy & Authority gave me a reliable framework for decision-making, and learning about my Undefined Centers opened the way for more self-compassion than I had thought possible.

That said, I wasn’t a Human Design “convert” from the get-go.

Even though I felt an immediate sense of recognition upon seeing my BodyGraph for the first time, it took a lot of learning and experimentation for me to begin to trust the system on a deeper level.

(I was also not thrilled to learn about the things the “founder” of Human Design did to retain control of his interpretation of the system. #cultleadervibes)

If you’re intrigued by the idea of Human Design, I highly recommend getting a reading from someone who has been immersed in the system (and their own experiment) for at least a few years.

Consider this my official pitch for why that person should be me. ↓

My Approach to Human Design Readings

Nuanced

While anyone can tell you a little bit about your Human Design Type, Strategy & Authority, it took me 5 years of semi-casual research–followed by 6 months of intense, focused study–to begin to see the connections between all the different parts of someone’s Human Design chart.

Let’s look at an example of this 2/4 Generator.

Human Design BodyGraph chart showing a Sacral Generator with Undefined Root, Ego, Emotional, and Spleen Centers, as well as a Quad Right Variable configuration.

If this person looked up the Generator Type & Strategy online, they’d be told that they are supposed to have these never-ending reserves of energy and bop around like a Duracell bunny on steroids.

A GIF of an energizer bunny headbanging to the beat, used to describe how Human Design Generators are often portrayed online.

Hearing this would probably bring up a lot of shame for this person, because, chances are, they rarely feel like doing anything of the sort.

In fact, they may really struggle with having enough energy to do things–and, according to their Human Design chart, there’s actually a pretty good reason for that.

Sure, they have their Sacral Center defined.

But all of their other Motors (a.k.a. energy sources) are either Undefined or completely Open, indicating that their access to energy may actually be quite inconsistent.

Moreover, every single one of their Variable arrows is pointing right–including their Environmental Variable.

In their correct Environment, this person is designed to take on the role of an Observer: to sit back, relax, and people-watch (rather than being the “busy bee” in the middle of the action).

On top of that, they have an abundance of 6th lines in their chart, creating an overarching sense of aloofness and detachment that would make them appear less “energetic” than your typical Generator.

There are so many little factors that work together to make you who you are, and I believe that a stock-standard “here’s your Type, Strategy, and Profile” reading would simply not do them justice.

That’s why, even though my Foundational Readings do follow a specific structure, I will always take the time to explain how the different parts of your chart come together to create your unique Design.

You can book one here, by the way.

Experimental

The founder of the Human Design system used to say: “Don’t believe a thing I tell you; try it for yourself.”

I agree with that. Which is why, even though I practice what I often call “source-based” Human Design, I do not treat Ra’s words as gospel.

Take, for example, the most commonly shared advice in the Human Design space: “Follow your Type, Strategy & Authority, and ignore the rest.”

Sure, those things could be important for you. But did you know Ra didn’t even begin talking about them until five-ish years into teaching Human Design?

And when he did start talking about them?

Well, let’s just say his approach to these concepts was FAR too dogmatic for my taste.🙄

Personally, I’ve found many other parts of my chart to be just as illuminating and worth exploring–which is something I encourage my clients to do as well.

During your experiment, you may find that your Sacral response doesn’t actually manifest as the “uh-uh”/”nuh-uh” sound traditional Human Design sources talk about.

Or that your Determination variable demands attention much earlier in your experiment than most analysts would suggest.

If you choose to book a Human Design reading with me, I will never ask you to follow the system to a T.

Instead, I will encourage you to experiment with the information to find the pieces that are valuable to YOU during this particular season of your life… And let the rest be.

I can’t wait to hear about the things you discover.

Grounded in source material (mostly)

Sometimes it feels like the entire Human Design space is engaged in a really chaotic game of telephone, passing on bits and pieces of knowledge without understanding where any of it came from.

“Where did this information come from?” is my favorite question to ask as I continue to expand my knowledge of both Human Design and astrology.

If I can’t reasonably trace something back to a “primary source” of some kind (= materials created by the International School of Human Design /Jovian Archive), I will be more cautious about including it in my practice.

It’s also important to remember that Human Design initially emerged as a synthesis of multiple other esoteric disciplines…

And we should honor those disciplines by learning more about them when we can.

So, yes. Staying grounded in source material is important to me.

(Minus all the dogma, though. Ra’s post-1997 “I want to be a cult leader!” era is really not my favorite. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

That said, I obviously have my own perspective on things, just like any other Human Design practitioner out there.

There are things about the system that don’t resonate with me at all, and others that I am still quite skeptical of.

For example, I find Ra’s attitude towards astrology completely laughable.

What do you mean you don’t think astrology is valuable, my dude?? It’s the basis of the entire Human Design system!

A GIF of Jennifer Lawrence saying "What do you mean?", used to describe the author's disagreement Ra Uru Ha's view of astrology.

^^ Me when I hear Ra talking sh*t about astrology again

I’m also quite fond of the Gene Keys system (an offshoot of the Human Design system created by one of Ra’s students, Richard Rudd)…

Which is something that most Human Design “purists” would probably scoff at.

The Quickest of FAQs

RE: My 1:1 Human Design Readings

When should I book a Human Design reading with you (or anyone, for that matter)?

Whenever you feel an intuitive nudge to do so + when you have the financial resources to do so with relative ease.

Since you’re still reading this, I reckon you might be pretty close to that point already. 😉

Which one of your Human Design readings should I book?

If you’re new to the Human Design system and/or want to make sure you get the basics right, book the Foundational Human Design Reading.

(You don’t need to know anything about the Human Design system before booking this one–I’ll walk you through the entire thing with as little jargon as possible.)

If you already know some of the basic lingo (e.g. Type, Strategy, Authority + Profile) and want to take a closer look at your unique gifts + purpose, the Incarnation Cross Reading might be more up your alley.

Do I need to know my exact birth time before booking a Human Design reading with you?

Short answer: yes. A lot of things in your Human Design chart (e.g. your Variables) can change VERY quickly (every few minutes or so).

If you don’t know your exact birth time, I’d recommend going through chart rectification with a professional astrologer first.

^^ If that’s not something you want to do right now, an approximate birth time miiight give you what you’re after; but please note that in your booking so that we can proceed accordingly.

An Invitation to Respond To–In Your Own Time

If my nuanced, experimental + (mostly) source-based approach resonates with you, consider this your official invitation to book a 90-minute Foundational Human Design reading with me here.

During our reading, I will go over the most important elements of your Human Design chart (e.g. your Human Design Profile) while also touching on a few more “advanced” subjects you might be curious about (e.g., your Incarnation Cross).

You’ll walk away with a solid understanding of your unique Design + plenty of avenues for further exploration and experimentation.

If trying to piece together multiple contradictory online sources just isn’t doing it for you (and you’d like to talk to someone who actually knows what’s going on)…

Book your Foundational Reading here.
